The quality of your examination also depends on the information you provide to your thyroid doctor before the examination. Current or older thyroid blood counts, thyroid ultrasound reports, or previous scintigraphy reports may be helpful.

After welcoming you at our frontdesk, we would ask you, to complete an informational form. Please do not forget your health insurance card. You will meet with your thyroid gland specialist. You will be thoroughly questioned about your symptoms, your neck will be palpated and an ultrasound examination will be performed of the anterior soft tissues of the neck, especially the thyroid gland. A comprehensive discussion of the preliminary findings follows. Afterwards, blood will be drawn and your pulse, blood pressure and body weight will be determined. In a few cases an additional scintigraphic functional examination or a fine needle puncture are required. You should schedule 60 minutes for the entire examination. Please be on time for your appointment.

Agreed appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance by telephone or by sending an e-mail to anmeldung@schilddruesenpraxis.ch. In the event of failure to do so, the appointment will be invoiced on a pro rata basis.

you/your general practitioner usually receive within five working days. The findings report contains the diagnosis, all examination results and recommendations for treatment and check-ups.

We are also happy to advise you if you want a second opinion. For this we need all existing findings in advance. The thyroid doctor will take a detailed anamnesis and always perform an ultrasound examination. Under certain circumstances, further examinations may be necessary. The aim of the second opinion is to answer as many of your questions as possible about your thyroid disorder.

Overactive or underactive thyroid glands can affect the likelihood of pregnancy and the course of pregnancy. In cases of hypothyroidism, regular hormone intake and laboratory tests can improve fertility. If you have hyperthyroidism and want to become pregnant, please talk to your thyroid doctor.

Thyroid disorder need not be a problem if you wish to become pregnant. Inform your obstetrician about your thyroid disorder at the beginning of your pregnancy. Regular laboratory checks are important, and it also vital that your thyroid medication is precisely dosed and taken in strict accordance with instructions.
